Threads

Prepare and review your Threads posts.

Keep the conversation in view as you prepare a Threads version.

Review the sequence and context

Prepare the text and media for the selected format. Review the sequence before you schedule it.

Formats, limits and results

See the supported formats, text and media limits, required settings, platform-only features and available metrics below. These details come from the same capability data the editor uses.

Confirm the version you intend to share

A person confirms publishing by default. A workspace owner can explicitly enable auto-publish for a particular agent in a particular workspace.

Current access

Limited

Publishing needs Meta's app review. Until it passes, only people added as Threads testers can connect and publish.

More to know

  • Threads allows 500 characters and counts each emoji by its UTF-8 bytes (most emoji count as 4, combined ones like families or flags as more); letters in any script count as one.
  • Images: JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB, aspect ratio up to 10:1; widths outside 320-1440 px are scaled by Threads.
  • Video: MOV or MP4 (H.264 or HEVC, AAC audio), up to 1 GB and 5 minutes, up to 1920 px wide, 23-60 fps, aspect ratio 0.01:1 to 10:1 (9:16 recommended).
  • Alt text: up to 1,000 characters on each image and video, including carousel items.
  • Threads cannot receive uploaded files; it downloads media from a public link, so media must be hosted first.
  • A post can carry at most 5 different links, counting a link card (a post with more fails since 2025-12-22). Link cards, GIPHY GIFs and topic tags only work on text-only posts.
  • Topic tags are 1 to 50 characters and cannot contain periods (.) or ampersands (&).
  • A thread is a chain of replies: each post is published with reply_to_id set to the post before it, which needs the threads_manage_replies permission. A carousel cannot be a post in a thread.
  • Unused post containers expire after 24 hours, so heyeveryone creates them just before publishing. Threads recommends waiting about 30 seconds before publishing a container.
  • Publishing is not idempotent: Threads documents no way to repeat a publish safely, so an unconfirmed publish is never retried blindly.
  • No documented limit on thread length; per profile, Threads allows 250 posts, 1,000 replies and 100 deletions per rolling 24 hours.
  • Not offered yet: polls, quote posts, long text attachments (up to 10,000 characters) and spoilers, which the API now supports.

Questions and answers

Can I use every feature in the platform app?
No. Platform APIs expose only some features. The format guide identifies what you need to finish manually.
