Keep the video, title and channel version together before uploading.

Check the video’s details

Review the title, description and required settings for the selected format. Check the channel guide for what must be finished in YouTube.

Formats, limits and results

See the supported formats, text and media limits, required settings, platform-only features and available metrics below. These details come from the same capability data the editor uses.

Confirm the version you intend to share

A person confirms publishing by default. A workspace owner can explicitly enable auto-publish for a particular agent in a particular workspace.

Current access

Limited

Until Google audits our API project, every upload is private, whatever visibility is chosen. Until Google verifies the heyeveryone app, connecting YouTube shows Google's "unverified app" screen, and at most 100 new users in total can connect: a lifetime cap Google can't reset.

What stays in the platform app

  • YouTube decides what is a Short (vertical or square, 3 minutes or less). It can't be forced.
  • Community posts can only be made on YouTube itself.
  • Music from YouTube's audio library can only be added in YouTube Studio.
  • Custom thumbnails for Shorts can only be set in YouTube Studio on a computer. heyeveryone posts the Short without one.

More to know

  • The post text is the video description: at most 5000 bytes (UTF-8), no < or >. The title is at most 100 characters and tags 500 characters in total (commas and quotes around tags with spaces count), neither with < or > (Videos resource).
  • The API accepts any video/* type (or application/octet-stream) up to 256 GB; no narrower list is documented.
  • Videos can be up to 12 hours; unverified channels are limited to 15 minutes (YouTube Help).
  • Segment media is one video plus an optional JPEG or PNG image (up to 50 MB since 2026-09-14), set as the custom thumbnail with thumbnails.set. The channel must be verified (YouTube Help 72431). Shorts take custom thumbnails only in YouTube Studio on a computer, so heyeveryone doesn't send one for a Short.
  • Shorts have no API flag: a vertical or square video of 180 seconds or less is classified as a Short automatically (YouTube Help, since October 2024). 1080x1920 is recommended. The 9:16 lower bound on aspect ratio is the recommended shape, not a documented minimum; the adapter only requires vertical or square.
  • Visibility: public, unlisted or private (status.privacyStatus). Until the API audit passes, Google forces every upload to private.
  • heyeveryone publishes at the scheduled time and doesn't use status.publishAt. The altered or synthetic content disclosure (status.containsSyntheticMedia, settable since 2024-10-30) is the containsSyntheticMedia setting. Other status fields (embeddable, license, publicStatsViewable) and defaultLanguage are not sent.
  • Quota: videos.insert has its own daily bucket (100 uploads a day by default); other calls share 10,000 units a day (thumbnails.set costs 50). Channels also have a daily upload cap (uploadLimitExceeded) whose number is not published.
  • YouTube Analytics data lags 48 to 72 hours; fresh counts come from videos.list statistics. Since 2026-08-27 'views' count from the first frame (autoplay included); engagedViews keeps the old method and is kept in the raw results.
  • OAuth: while the Google Cloud OAuth consent screen is in 'Testing' with external users, refresh tokens expire after 7 days, so channels disconnect weekly. Set the consent screen to 'In production' before connecting real channels (see docs/setup/platforms/youtube.md). Google also keeps at most 100 live refresh tokens per account per client.
